Our
Blessed Lady Has Come to Me (1883)
Stricken with fever, ten-year-old Theresa was confined to her bed. Her sister
cared for her constantly. Her illness was grave and hope was waning among her
family members. A statue of our lady was by her bedside and it was to her that
Theresa prayed and sought comfort. The statue became animated and Our Lady
smiled on Theresa with a countenance of divine beauty that penetrated to her
very soul. Suddenly she was free of fever and filled with happiness at having
been visited by Our Lady.
The stained glass portrays the moment the fever has vanished and the young
girl realizes the gift she has received. Her hands are clasped in a prayer of
Thanksgiving. The moment is so fresh that her sister is still unaware of the
miracle that has happened before her downcast eyes.
