How
Sweet was the First Embrace of Jesus (1884)
In reading St. Theresa's account of her First Holy Communion, the designer
of these windows found a new appreciation and understanding of her First Communion.
The simple joy and overwhelming love that she describes can be an example to
all of us and a source of reflection when we receive Chirst each Sunday. These
are not the words of a learned theologian but the feelings of a young woman
written so clearly as to be an inspiration to us all.
The young Theresa is shown in the attire of a communicant consumed by the
excitement and joy of this day. Perhaps the dress is a little finer than her
family could have afforded but it represents the richness that this experience
brought to her young life.
